THE FOUR ELEMENTS
There are four kinds of elemental magic; Earth, Fire, Water and Wind. Elemental magic uses the power of nature alone and not that of the user.
After completing the two years of their elemental class the students are given the choice between Black or White Magic, followed by another two years. Some may want to learn other elements first.

Earth student Cathy

Earth
Earth is the most popular element because it's about many aspects of nature and pretty easy to control. Users are able to control earth or rock, flora and sometimes communicate with animals. This element can be used for both attacking and defending.
Strong against: Fire
Weakness: Water

Fire student Yin-We

Fire
The most powerful element of all, mainly used for causing destruction. In this element, fire, infernos and explosions are common. Mostly used for attacking.
Strong against: Wind
Weakness: Earth

Water student Drake

Water
The most difficult element to control. People compare using water magic to holding a fish with your bare hands. Water can have different forms like fog and ice. Used for deflecting attacks and for illusions.
Strong against: Earth
Weakness: None, but hard to fight against Wind

Wind student Yumi

Wind
The least popular element, because people don't know its possibilities yet and it's hard to control. The element's trump is that it's invisible to others. Mostly used as support magic, sometimes for attacking.
Strong against: Nothing, but equal to Water
Weakness: Fire (very weak)

BLACK AND WHITE MAGIC
Where elementals are limited to using the nature's powers alone, Black and White Magic users are taught to use the power within themselves. This can also be called general magic. Things that can be achieved with this kind of magic are teleporting, transforming, illusions and healing.
People who start with Fire or Wind mostly end up choosing for Black Magic, and those who started with Earth or Water for White Magic. The reason is simple; some elements are more oriented at causing destruction and some at healing.

Other Elements
Next to the four natural elements and black and white magic, it is rumoured that there are still other elements left to be discovered. Some researchers have written articles about the possible existence of elements like technology or psyche, but none has found proof so far.

Summoning
When practising magic, summoning of spirits or monsters is possible. Spirits are practically the same as animals, the only difference is that they can form a psychic link with their masters. Monsters are demonic beings with special powers.
Elemental students can easily summon spirits using spells that don't require energy. Though spirits are less likely to listen to one's orders when the energy level of that person is low (i.e. when someone's tired). Summoning monsters uses up both physical and psychic energy, the amount increasing as the summoned monsters get bigger. Also, a pact is needed in order to summon a particular monster. The Monster Network was invented for this cause.
